What is Profile Update?
Profile Update is an Internet service provided by West that allows licensed attorneys who are private practitioners or corporate counsel to update the information in their existing West Legal Directory profiles.

If you would like to change the information in your WLD profile but don't fit in the above categories, e-mail WLD Customer Service at wld.update@thomson.com.

Where can I view my WLD profile without updating it?
You and others can view your WLD profile by going to www.findlaw.com and completing the Lawyer Search section. Your profile is also viewable on Westlaw by accessing the West Legal Directory database (WLD).

How do I get started with Profile Update?
To get started with Profile Update, go to www.profileupdate.findlaw.com, enter your e-mail address under the Register section, and click Continue. After registration you will be prompted to find and claim your WLD profile.

What information can be updated with Profile Update?
The information you can update with Profile Update depends on the type of profile you have.

With a basic (free) listing, you can update information such as your name, address, phone and fax number, e-mail address, and practice area. If you have an enhanced profile, you can update information in a wide variety of categories, including narrative text, representative cases and clients, education, and more. If you have claimed your individual profile, you can update your own profile, but not the organization profile with which it is affiliated. If you have claimed your organization's profile, you can update the organization profile, as well as individual profiles that are affiliated with the organization profile.

How long will it take for my updated profile to be displayed on FindLaw and Westlaw?
Most profile changes are displayed on FindLaw as soon as you publish your profile in Profile Update and on Westlaw within 24 hours. Publication of new profiles and affiliation changes may take up to two business days.

Is my profile information secure?
West adheres to standard Internet security guidelines. For additional precautions, updating your profile with Profile Update requires a password.

Your organization is solely responsible for any legal liability arising out of or relating to the profile data. Please see the state advertising restrictions and West Legal Directory disclaimers links at the bottom of your profile for details.

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, you can have it e-mailed to you. See Getting Your Password for details.

What if I need to change my password, e-mail address, or other registration information?
To change your Profile Update and MY FindLaw registration information in Profile Update, go to www.profileupdate.findlaw.com and sign on. In the left frame, click Update Your Registration, enter your new information, and click OK.

Why do I receive an error message when I try to update my profile from the Manage Your Profiles page?
Some organizations prefer that all individual profiles affiliated with the organization be updated from a central location. As a result, firm administrators can control the access to individual profiles that are affiliated with their organization and prevent individuals from updating their own profiles.

If you receive an error message when trying to update your profile, please contact your firm administrator.
