Printing Documents

You can print, e-mail, or download the documents that you retrieve.

Print charges are included in the cost of each retrieved document. In other words, while you are viewing a document you can print it at no extra charge.

To print a document,

  1. While viewing a retrieved document, click Print Doc at the top of the page.

  2. Select a destination from the Print or Deliver to drop-down list:

E-mail: Deliver your print request to an e-mail address.

Attached printer: Print your request on a printer directly connected to your computer or your network.

Download: Save your print request to a file.

  3. Click Properties and select or type the information requested. Depending on your destination, you can choose among several file formats and delivery formats.

  4. Click Save and then click OK.

  5. If you are printing on an attached printer, the print request is displayed in a new browser window. Click the Print icon on the toolbar or choose Print from the File menu in the browser window to print the document.

If you are downloading your print request, right-click the Download link and choose Save Target As from the pop-up menu. Specify the name and location of the file to be downloaded and click Save.

Selecting a File Format

When specifying your destination settings, you can choose from the following file format options:

  • Word: Print, e-mail, or download your print request as a Microsoft Word file, when Word is installed on your computer.

  • WordPerfect: Print, e-mail, or download your print request as a Corel WordPerfect file, when WordPerfect is installed on your computer. (This option is available only if you use a Windows operating system.)

  • HTML: Print, e-mail, or download your print request as an HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) file. Dual-column format is available in HTML if you are running Windows and Internet Explorer 5.5 or later.

  • PDF: Print, e-mail, or download your print request as a PDF (Portable Document Format) file using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click Get Acrobat Reader to download a free copy of the reader.

  • ASCII: E-mail or download your document as an ASCII (text only) file.

  • No attachment, e-mail as inline text: E-mail your print request as an e-mail message, not in an attachment.

Selecting a Delivery Format

When specifying your destination settings, you can choose from the following format options:

  • Composed/Book-Style: Print, e-mail, or download your case law in a two-column format, similar to a page in a West reporter. Statutes and law review articles will be single-column format, similar to how they appear in print.

  • Full-width: Print, e-mail, or download your documents in a single, full-page column format.
